Fundraising with Thomson Hayton Winkley at the Westmorland Show
We would like to say a big thank you to the Thomson Hayton Winkley Rural Law Practice (THW Rural Law Practice) for organising and hosting our charity Breakfast Butty morning on their stand at the Westmorland County Show last week.
The sun was shining, the turnout of guests was brilliant and we managed to raise £250.08p all together, all in aid of our good causes here at the Addington Fund.
THW Rural Law Practice also sponsored the soft launch for our Cumbria Farm Business Awards 2021, organised by Ann and Andy Newbold at FarmSmart, in which there were two very worthy winners for each category.
This year's winners for the Covid Resilience Award 2021 were James & Catherine Hadwin at Love Ewe Dairy:
“James and Catherine Hadwin have had a challenging time over Covid, as they lost their customers for their sheeps’ milk overnight. The closure of the food service market saw their customer contracts crumble and not accept milk from other suppliers. James and Catherine were not beaten as they established their own business to directly sell their milk and add value on farm. James has fought to keep the farm going following the death of his father and has juggled a number of jobs, as well as keeping the farm going for many years. They are a committed couple with a passion for farming and have started a business from scratch which is now a great success.”
Well done to James and Catherine for their hard work and determination.
And last but not least, the winners of this year’s Community Champion 2021 were Cumbria’s Southern District YFC
“It was a united effort across all 10 clubs in Cumbria’s southern district when it came to offering their community support during the pandemic. Working together as a district they provided much needed support to local surgeries and Covid-19 vaccination centres in Kendal and Grange over Sands. From marshalling car parks to moving furniture and guiding people through the centre for their vaccine – their support meant healthcare workers and admin staff could continue assisting the clinics.”
“Their efforts were praised on television, social media and in the local press – with positive headlines applauding YFC for being ‘instrumental’ to the vaccine roll out in the local area. And it’s little wonder that YFC members have been stopped in supermarkets to thank them for their support!”
“They also raised money for the Great North Air Ambulance by collecting people’s unwanted items and some members bravely took part in a 15,000ft sky dive to raise funds for their district and The Calvert Trust.”
“Their joined-up efforts also extended to organising a tractor relay to show YFC’s support for the local agricultural college that is closing, volunteering to plant hedges for the Westmorland Agricultural Society and also helping with car park stewarding at the Society’s Food and Craft Fair.”
“Their collective support has also kept members connected during the isolation of the pandemic and proven what can be achieved when you work together.”
Thank you to Cumbria’s YF for your amazing efforts.
Thomson Hayton Winkley were a pleasure to work with and we can’t wait to work together more in the not too distant future.
