Support our work
We have been fortunate to receive some very large one-off donations from other charitable trusts, but we also receive much smaller amounts on an annual basis.
Our Trustees are profoundly grateful for all grants and donations and would welcome any support your Trust may be able to offer. Thank you!
Grant-giving charities have been badly affected since the financial crash in 2008, as many rely on dividends from shares and interest from cash investments that allow them to award grants to charities like ours. Dividends may have increased but interest rates remain very subdued. In these circumstances, every donation we receive is even more precious.
Grant criteria
Every charity uses a set of criteria to inform which grants they approve. They may also have some geographical restrictions. We work across England and Wales but can also hold and administer donations made for a specific county or for a specific piece of work. An example of this is our response to the serious flooding in Somerset in 2014.
Sustainability
Since our Retirement Housing scheme began in 2002, we have appreciated how many of the families we started to support rely on us for the rest of their lives. So that we can meet this important responsibility, we know it is vital that we are as sustainable as possible in what we do. That’s why it is our continual mission to generate enough income from our own resources to meet the costs of all our day-to-day operating expenses.
Staffing costs
In order to be ambitious and continually expand our support for the farming community, we need a small team of staff who are well equipped to do so. We are conscious however of the impact investing in our team has on our core costs and so any grant funding which can help us offset these costs is very gratefully received. By growing sustainably and staying lean, we can continue to invest all general donations into helping more farming families.
