Simon Mountjoy is the Chair of our Housing Subcommittee and also a Director of Addington Development Company Ltd. He joined Addington Fund as a Trustee in 2018.

His career has been in farm business consultancy, as a partner of a national practice for over 30 years. He has witnessed numerous challenges to the industry beyond the usual weather and price pressures, including Foot and Mouth, Classical Swine Fever, Avian Flu and Covid-19.

According to Simon, an over-riding challenge for the industry is an ageing workforce and increasing necessity for scale and technical performance. This has had a detrimental effect on smaller-scale producers, particularly graziers and tenants, and may raise serious concerns as their working lives come to an end. Simon, like many of us, has seen how this has resulted in a loss of housing, personal hardship and financial insecurity.

He says, “Addington is unique in having a stock of rural housing and an ambition to provide more of the same in the future. I look forward to doing what I can to assist this to happen.”

Away from work, Simon enjoys sailing, a poor golf handicap, tennis, walking, skiing, equestrian and family time.
